SOPHOMORE HOUSING

Building on the communities that were established freshman year, Mercyhurst offers sophomore year students the opportunity to live in the Sophomore Area. This area is set aside for only sophomore students and is supervised by the Assistant Director of Residence Life. Two graduate student Hall Directors work with Resident Assistants (RAs) who are committed to assisting with the transition from freshman to sophomore year. Additionally, programs and activities geared towards sophomore needs are offered each term.

The Sophomore Area is comprised of ten apartment buildings – eight Briggs apartment buildings as well as East and West Duval. The majority of the Briggs apartments are quads with a limited number of triples. All of the Duval apartments are quads.

Ryan Hall

The student residential experience is an important component to a Mercyhurst education, and our residential buildings support our ability to nurture this experience. Grounded in our Mercy Mission, we aspire to build communities that celebrate hospitality and diversity, that welcome people from all walks of life and encourage growth and transformation among our student body.

Opened in Fall 2018, Ryan Hall is the latest example of Mercyhurst’s commitment to reimagining our campus life experience to better meet the needs of today’s students. This suite-style sophomore residence hall houses approximately 350 students in an environment designed to foster students’ academic, social and personal growth.

Each of the 90 suites in Ryan Hall houses four students and includes two furnished bedrooms (two students per bedroom), two full baths, a common living room, and a snack prep area. The first floor of Ryan Hall is home to the 501 Grille, an all-you-care-to-eat restaurant-style dining facility, as well as Anchor Express, a convenient grab-and-go food and limited grocery location. Ryan Hall also offers several different communal lounges, study spaces, and a banquet/event space known as the Waterford Room.
