COHEN STUDENT HEALTH CENTER
Getting sick when you're away at college doesn't have to be a frightening experience for you or a big worry for your parents. The Cohen Student Health Center is located on Briggs Avenue next to the Mercyhurst Bookstore. It is staffed by doctor(s) and registered nurses. The Student Health Center provides primary care for ordinary illnesses. Available services include: assessment and treatment of common illnesses, specialist’s referral, as indicated, blood pressure screening, nutritional guidance, flu vaccinations (in season), administer allergy shots, and skin care review.
The services of the Health Center are free of charge and available to all registered students who have completed health forms on file in the Health Center office.

The mission of the Cohen Student Health Center is to enhance the academic success of our students by providing high quality, accessible health care in a non-judgmental atmosphere that values diversity and respects individuality.
We address each student encounter as an opportunity to empower students to make informed decisions about health-related concerns, prevention and risk reduction to promote life-long choices. The Center upholds the confidentiality of the individual student in a manner respectful of privacy and consistent with professional ethics and community laws. We collaborate with faculty, administration, students and others on initiatives and events that work toward our collective goal of maintaining a safe and healthy campus.
MU brings in Pet Companion(s) periodically through partnerships with local organizations and individuals. These companions can appear at various on campus locations, including but not limited to:
- Counseling Sessions
- Group Sessions
- Waiting Room
- Exam Room/Doctor's Visits
- Special Events
Pet companion(s) aid in:
- Physiological relief from academic and personal stress,
- Reduce stress, blood pressure and anxiety,
- Promote well being,
- Provide unconditional affection,
- Stimulate interaction with those who have difficulty communicating or problems with verbalization, and
- Provide a safe, temporary diversion when dealing with emotionally intense issues.
The Relaxation Room is a calm space to sit, reflect, and relax. This space has been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is designed to help students explore various resources for improving their emotional and physical health.
The Relaxation Room contains information and guided exercises on:
- Muscle Relaxation
- Relaxation Imagery / Relaxation Sounds
- Guided Imagery
- Health & Well Being
- Sleep Issues
The Relaxation Room is open for student use on Monday-Friday during the Health Center hours. Please contact Lori at 814-824-2431 to arrange a time to use the room.
