Image of the Month: First Picture
Mercyhurst College opened its doors to young woman on September 20, 1926. The college had 23 students; 19 freshmen and 4 transfer students. Pictured right is the first photograph taken of the complex, which totaled 63,236 square feet.
Did you know?
Two weeks before the college opened in September 1926 the H.J. Conrath Construction company went on strike over a labor dispute at another construction site. However, this did not keep the Sisters of Mercy from finishing the building in time to open. Pictured left is the construction site .
