Mercyhurst students help launch generative AI platform through data² partnership

Mercyhurst University students played a central role in the campus launch of a new generative AI-powered analytics platform Wednesday, Feb. 18, serving as beta testers and early adopters through a partnership between the university’s Center for Intelligence Research, Analysis, and Training (CIRAT) and data².
The platform, formally introduced during an on-campus event attended by university leadership and regional partners, was tested and evaluated by Mercyhurst students prior to its broader release. Through hands-on application and structured feedback, students helped refine the tool’s real-world functionality while gaining direct experience with emerging generative AI technologies.
“This partnership reflects Mercyhurst’s commitment to applied innovation and preparing students to lead in rapidly evolving industries,” said President Kathleen Getz. “Our students are not only learning about advanced analytics and artificial intelligence—they are actively helping shape how these tools are developed and used.”
CIRAT Executive Director Brian Fuller noted that the collaboration underscores Mercyhurst’s long-standing emphasis on experiential learning and industry engagement.
“Our students are working with industry-grade GenAI technology platforms in real time,” Fuller said. “data² is a trusted partner in providing opportunities for our students to learn, test, and evaluate technologies that have implications well beyond the classroom.”
Annually, CIRAT provides more than 150 students with real-world experience by supporting over 50 clients across national security groups, U.S. government agencies, law enforcement organizations, and private-sector businesses.
By integrating the data² platform into coursework and applied research environments, Mercyhurst continues to strengthen connections between academic programs and industry innovation while positioning students at the forefront of intelligence operations and generative AI applications.
