Mercyhurst University proudly celebrates alumna and faculty member, Dr. Rebecca A. Styn ’96, who has been named Small Business of the Year at the inaugural Spirit of Erie Awards, presented by the Erie Regional Chamber & Growth Partnership.

The Spirit of Erie Awards recognize outstanding individuals and organizations that embody vision, resilience, and community spirit. Dr. Styn, founder and CEO of Blind Tiger Spirit-Free Cocktails, was selected for her innovation in the beverage industry and her ongoing contributions to the Erie community.

“Rebecca exemplifies the very best of Mercyhurst,” said Dr. Kathleen Getz, president of Mercyhurst University. “Her entrepreneurial vision, her resilience in the face of challenge, and her commitment to our region reflect the values we hold dear. We could not be more proud of her.”

A Visionary Entrepreneur and Community Leader

After earning her bachelor’s degree in music from Mercyhurst, Dr. Styn built a dynamic career that bridges the arts, education, and entrepreneurship. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her business, she launched Blind Tiger Spirit-Free Cocktails, a brand dedicated to crafting premium non-alcoholic and low-ABV cocktails.

Since its founding in 2021, Blind Tiger has grown into a nationally and internationally recognized company, with distribution in over 1,000 locations and more than 30 awards for excellence. Beyond business success, Dr. Styn continues to serve the Erie community as an educator, mentor, and advocate for innovation.

Mercyhurst Pride

Dr. Styn’s accomplishments exemplify Mercyhurst’s mission to educate men and women for lives of integrity, service, and creativity. Her journey stands as an inspiration to current students and fellow alumni alike. “As a Mercyhurst graduate, Rebecca shows our students what is possible when you pair education with vision and perseverance,” University Provost, Dr. Richard McCarty added.
