Interim President
Dr. David J. Livingston began his two-year interim presidency at Mercyhurst University on July 1, 2026. Prior to serving at Mercyhurst, he served for ten years as Lewis University’s 10th president.
While at Lewis, Dr. Livingston significantly expanded the university’s health science programs, as well as its Aviation and Computer Science curriculums. Through the merger with St. Augustine College, Lewis added more than 700 students and three additional campus locations. Lewis also experienced significant growth in international enrollment, with more than 1,000 international students studying at the university.
Dr. Livingston previously served as president of Lourdes University (2013-2016). During his tenure, Lourdes experienced an increase in the quality, retention, and graduation rates of its students; expanded academic programs; and renovated the campus to support their strategic growth initiatives.
Prior to his presidency at Lourdes University, Dr. Livingston served Mercyhurst University for 16 years in various capacities, including as a faculty member in the Department of Religious Studies Department, president of the Faculty Senate, and vice president for Advancement.
Dave has been married to his wife, Joan, for 38 years. They have two children, Matt and Sara, and two grandchildren, Krish and Amara.
