Graduate School at Mercyhurst
Our per-credit and graduate school tuition costs are based on the current academic year. Program totals are estimates based on full-time enrollment over the minimum length of the program and include tuition and anticipated fees. Actual totals may vary based on number of credits taken, number of online courses taken, and annual tuition and fee increases.

Graduate School Financial Aid Options
At Mercyhurst University, we believe that the cost of graduate schools should be within reach for everyone. Whether you’re a Mercyhurst alum, military veteran or spouse/dependent, or an international student, we offer you a variety of ways to reduce or eliminate your out-of-pocket tuition and fee expenses. Here are a few options.
Special Alumni Tuition Rates
Whether you’ve just graduated or are considering a return after several years, we offer a special graduate school tuition rate to alumni. The rate represents a 30% or more savings compared to the standard tuition rate for graduate programs in Applied Intelligence, Cyber Risk Management, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Integrative Nursing Leadership, Secondary Education, Special Education, Teaching Excellence, and Principal Leadership. More information is available on our Graduate Program Benefits for Alumni webpage.
Mercyhurst is a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program and its designation as a Purple Heart University. Visit our Veterans Benefits webpage or call our Office of Veterans Services at 814-824-2617 to learn about graduate school financial aid for veterans and the services available to veterans and their spouses and dependents.
Federal Direct Loans
If you are enrolled in at least six graduate credits per semester you are eligible for Direct Unsubsidized Loans. These loans are not need-based.
To apply for a Direct Unsubsidized Loan, you must first complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If this is your first time receiving a Direct Loan at Mercyhurst, you’ll complete entrance counseling to ensure you understand your obligation to repay the loan. You'll also need to sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN), agreeing to the terms of the loan — you can complete these steps on the Federal Student Aid website. The annual loan limit for graduate students is $20,500 — more than enough, in most cases, to cover your tuition and fee expenses for a given academic year.
Alternative Student Loans
If you need additional loans for graduate tuition and fees, particularly in the Physician Assistant Studies program, or hope to borrow additional money to help with living expenses, visit the ELMSelect website for alternative student loan options.
Graduate assistantships (GA) and graduate employment (GE) are two other kinds of financial aid for graduate school. A limited number of GA are available for those who can accept employment on the Mercyhurst campus. Graduate assistants receive a full or partial waiver of tuition and a stipend in return for working a minimum of 20 hours per week. To be eligible, participants must:
Be accepted into a graduate, post baccalaureate, or second degree program
- Have a current resume and/or GA application on file with the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions
- Not be receiving any additional institutional aid (including athletic scholarships)
- Not have another job on campus
The awarding of a GA position is not need-based but is considered graduate financial aid. It is an extremely competitive process based on the positions available in a given academic year and the skills that a GA area's supervisor values. GA candidates are selected by an area supervisor and are not assigned by the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions. Traditionally, graduate assistants work in one of the following areas:
- Residence Life
- Student Life
- Academic Departments
Qualified students not awarded a GA position may be offered a graduate employment (GE) opportunity. GE positions can reduce your cost of graduate schools by earning up to $9,000 annually on campus. People with GE positions are paid bi-weekly and typically asked to work September through May of an academic school year.
Both GA and GE positions are considered annual awards of graduate school financial aid. Positions may be cut and/or reclassified for the following year. There is no guarantee that a participant will be awarded a GA or GE position in their second year.
Employers and Corporate Partnerships
In addition to financial aid for graduate school, Mercyhurst offers flexibility when your employer offers a tuition reimbursement program. You can enroll in the Employer Reimbursement/Tuition Deferment Program by completing the enrollment form on the Student Financial Services page of the Mercyhurst Hub. The program allows your account balance to be deferred until 45 days after the end of the term. Enrollment and payment deadlines are listed on the form. If you have questions about this program, contact the Office of Student Financial Services at 814-824-2288 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Educational Benefits Supplemental Grant (EBSG)
You may qualify for a grant if your employer participates in the EBSG program. Mercyhurst has a limited number of partnerships with businesses and organizations that allow for a $650 per-class grant toward eligible academic programs. To find out if your employer is part of the EBSG program you can contact the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions via email at email@example.com.
If you’ve already confirmed that your employer is a partner, you’ll need to determine eligibility for your tuition discount. All applicants eligible for this type of graduate financial aid must submit the Employer Reimbursement Form (available on the Student Financial Services page of the Mercyhurst Hub) and the Educational Benefits Supplemental Grant Program Application. Complete the forms then email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Corporate Partnership Tuition Discount
We have special tuition rate agreements with a number of businesses and organizations that can reduce your cost of graduate school. The special tuition rates save you more than 30% off the standard tuition rate for graduate programs in Applied Intelligence, Criminal Justice Administration, Cyber Risk Management, Cyber Security, Data Science, and Special Education and Applied Disability Studies.
If your employer has a corporate partnership tuition agreement with Mercyhurst, be sure to fill out the Corporate Partner Tuition Rate Agreement form when you apply to your eligible graduate program.
