Mercyhurst University administers a large and diverse collection of scholarships that provide assistance every year to undergraduate and graduate students. These scholarships are made possible by the many dedicated supporters of Mercyhurst - all who exhibit a belief in the university’s mission. Their generosity has truly enhanced educational opportunities for our students.
Currently, Mercyhurst University has nearly 150 endowed/restricted scholarships available to award to eligible students. These scholarships have specific selection requirements and eligibility requirements. Students are automatically considered for these scholarships when submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA.)
Endowed funds differ from others in that they are truly the gift that keeps giving. These awards are based on earnings available during a fiscal year.
Instead of the entire amount of the gift being spent outright, the total amount of the gift is invested. Each year, only a portion of the invested income earned is spent while the remainder is added to the original principal. An endowment is a perpetual gift because only the interest is used to support the University while the principle continuously grows.
Endowed scholarships provide substantial tuition assistance for Mercyhurst students each year, thereby assuring their ability to grow intellectually, spiritually, and in service to others.
Generations of families have passed on the Mercyhurst tradition to their children and, in that spirit, Mercyhurst University offers Alumni Legacy Scholarships to children of alumni. In addition to the myriad of other scholarships and financial aid provided by Mercyhurst University, these $1,000 scholarships provide an additional benefit for families of alumni. To receive the scholarship, the applicant must be a dependent of a Mercyhurst University alumnus. Applicants should contact their representative in the Office of Admissions for more information; please refer to the Meet the Counselors webpage to locate the appropriate representative.
Restricted scholarship awards are based on donor contributions during a fiscal year. Restricted Scholarships are donations given directly to fund scholarships without the preservation of the original gift principal. These funds are expended as directed by the donor. Selection criteria for these scholarships may vary, but generally awards are based on need and academic achievement.
Through this program, you help support financial aid and current-use scholarships directly to Mercyhurst students. This program is critical in allowing students of all backgrounds to follow their dreams, and to have access to a Mercyhurst education.
