Endowed Scholarships

Below is a complete listing of scholarships that do not have an application. Please read the scholarships and their descriptions to learn about the types we offer.

    The Albert C. Maess M.D. and Alelaide S. Maess Endowment Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 by Albert Maess. The scholarship supports students who are in financial need and majoring in human ecology (present-day, fashion merchandising). In the event all students in that program's needs are fully met, the scholarship can support students from Ireland or other students, as determined by the university.

    The Betsy L. Lantz Scholarship in Liberal Arts was established in 1987 by the college in memory of Betsy L. Lantz, who was a Mercyhurst junior who died an untimely death from cystic fibrosis in November 1986. The scholarship supports students who are studying in liberal arts. The scholarship is awarded upon the recommendation of the Honors Program Chair.

    The Black Family Scholarship Fund was established in 2002 by Samuel P. Black III. The scholarship supports full-time, undergraduate students majoring in the arts, as well as in financial need and good academic standing. Faculty members should recommend students for the scholarship based on talent. The scholarship should be awarded based on the financial need of those recommended.

    The C.A. Curtze Co./Kern Family Scholarship was established in 1985 by C.A. Curtze Company. The scholarship supports students majoring in hospitality management and their senior year, as well as reside in Erie or Crawford County (location is the first preference).

    The Capital Campaign Scholarship Endowment was established in 1994 during the "Continuing the Dream" campaign by Mercyhurst College employees.

    The Carnahan-Jackson Foundation Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 by the Carnahan-Jackson Foundation. The scholarship supports students who are in financial need and good academic standing. Preference is given to students from western New York and Pennsylvania.

    The Carnahan-Jackson Scholarship was established in 2010 by the Carnahan-Jackson Foundation. The scholarship supports students at Mercyhurst University.

    The Carolyn Golanka Euliano Endowed Scholarship was established in 2016 by Neil and Carolyn Euliano. The scholarship supports female students who are upperclassmen, in financial need, and majoring in mathematics.

    The Carolyn Ruth '63 Endowed Scholarship was established in 2018 by Carolyn Ruth, Class of 1963. The scholarship supports undergraduate students who are upperclassmen and majoring in science (chemistry, biology, physics, etc.).

    The Catherine and Helen Durkin Scholarship was established in 2009 by Rosemary Durkin, Class of 1977.

    The Catholic Diocese of Erie Endowed Scholarship was established in 2001 by the Diocese of Erie. The scholarship supports students in financial need from the Diocese of Erie.

    The Charles A. Dailey Family Scholarship was established in 1994 by the C.A. Failey Foundation. The scholarship supports students who are in financial need, student-athletes, as well as in good academic standing and their freshman year (it is renewable if the student maintains a 2.5 GPA at the end of his/her freshman year and 2.8 GPA at the end of his/her sophomore year).

    The Chester J. Laskowski Family Scholarship was established in 1981 by the late Chester Laskowski, a well-known Erie Insurance agent. The scholarship supports incoming freshmen students from Erie County first majoring in music.

    The Chris McCabe Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1978 by the Hotel/Restaurant Management Society of Mercyhurst College in memory of Chris McCabe, who was a student at Mercyhurst who passed away during his hospitality management internship while working at Holiday Inn in Wildwood, NJ. The scholarship supports students who are underclassmen and majoring in hospitality management with financial need.

    The Christ Scott Scholarship Fund supports students majoring in music (violin).

    The Christine Haughton Loftus Scholarship was established in 2002 by Thomas and Christine Loftus, Class of 1956. The scholarship supports students at Mercyhurst University who are in financial need with an award limit of $2,000.

    The Christine Hoffman Scholarship was established in memory of Christine at her time of death.

    The Christopher J. Cuzzola Memorial Scholarship was established in 2016 by the Knox Law Firm in Erie, PA, in memory of Chris Cuzzola. Chris was a 1989 graduate from Mercyhurst, a founder and team captain of the first men's hockey team in 1988, and the recipient of the Sister Carolyn Herrmann Service Award at his graduation. After graduation, Chris remained committed to the mission and success of Mercyhurst and continued to give of himself unselfishly. His ever-present, infectious smile regularly brightened events on campus. He was a Laker in every sense of the word. The scholarship supports student-athletes who are in financial need. First preference for awarding will be for a hockey player.

    The Clarence A. and Eugenie B. Smith Memorial Scholarship was established by Eugenie in 1989 in their memory. Clarence A. Smith was a marketing executive for the Times News and Eugenie B. Smith was a poet. The scholarship supports criteria that are established by the Board of Trustees - One scholarship to an academically qualified student majoring in marketing or related areas and the other to a student interested and talented in poetry and/or creative writing.

    The Clarence Beyers Scholarship was established in 1981 by Clarence Beyers, who was an Erie patron of music. The scholarship supports students from Erie, PA, majoring in music.

    The Class of 1937 Scholarship was established in 1986 by the members of the Class of 1937 in honor of their 50th reunion. The scholarship supports students in good academic standing and their junior or senior year.

    This Class of 1938 Scholarship was established in 1988 by the members of the Class of 1938. The scholarship supports academically qualified students in need of financial assistance.

    The Class of 1939 Scholarship was established in 1988-1989 by members of the Class of 1939. The scholarship supports academically qualified students in need of financial aid.

    This Class of 1940 Scholarship was established in 1988-1989 by members of the Class of 1940. The scholarship supports academically qualified students with financial need.

    The Class of 1941 Scholarship was established in 1991 by members of the Class of 1941.

    The Class of 1942 Scholarship was established in 1991-1992 by members of the Class of 1942 in honor of their 50th reunion.

    The Class of 1943 scholarship was established in 1992-1993 by members of the Class of 1943 in honor of their 50th reunion.

    The Class of 1944 Scholarship was established in 1993 by members of the Class of 1944.

    The Class of 1945 Scholarship was established in 1995 by the Class of 1945.

    The Class of 1949 Scholarship was established in 1999-2000 by the Class of 1949 in honor of their 50th anniversary. The scholarship supports students in good academic standing.

    The Class of 1959 Scholarship was established by members of the Class of 1959.

    The Class of 1964 Scholarship was established in 2004 in honor of their 40th reunion and initiated by Mary Ellen Ryan. The scholarship supports students with financial need. The class intended the scholarship would provide students the opportunity to attend Mercyhurst.

    The Class of 1967 Scholarship was established in 2017 by the Class of 1967 in honor of their 50th reunion. The scholarship supports incoming freshmen in good academic standing with financial need to carry through their academic careers.

    The Class of 1968 Endowed Scholarship was established in 2018 by the Class of 1968 in honor of their 50th reunion. The scholarship supports female students in their junior or senior year by providing them with financial need.

    The Class of 1969 Endowed Scholarship was established in 2019 by the Class of 1969 in honor of their 50th reunion. The scholarship supports students in financial need.

    The Class of 1972 Scholarship was established in 2022 in honor of their 50th reunion. The scholarship supports students who are in financial need and non-athletes.

    The Class of 1977 scholarship was established in 1987-1988 by members of the Class of 1977 in honor of their 10th reunion. The scholarship supports students in good academic standing and those who exemplify the meaning of Carpe Diem with financial need.

    The Class of 1986 Scholarship was established by members of the Class of 1986.

    The Class of 1990 scholarship was established by members of the Class of 1990 in honor of their graduation from the college. The scholarship supports students in good academic standing with financial need.

    The Class of 1994 Scholarship was established in 1994 by members of the Class of 1994 in honor of their senior project. The scholarship supports students in their senior year and those who have a 3-3.5 GPA with financial need. If no senior is eligible, the scholarship may be given to a junior, then sophomore, then freshman.

    The Class of 2023 Magnolia: Bloom with Grace Scholarship was established in 2023 by the Class of 2023 as their Senior Class gift. The scholarship supports students with financial need.

    The Classes of 1960, 1970, & 1971 Scholarship was established in 2022 by the Classes of 1960, 1970, and 1971, who were all in the process of planning and celebrating their 60th or 50th reunions when the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. The classes pooled their support together to create one large scholarship. The scholarship supports students with financial need.

    The J. Douglas and Jean B. James Endowed Scholarship was established in 1990 by J. Douglas and Jean B. James through an estate gift following Jean's death. The scholarship originally supported students majoring in human ecology and was changed in 2013 to support students majoring in business or communications.

    The Dr. Barbara Chambers Endowed Scholarship was established in 2013 by Dr. Barbara Chambers. The scholarship supports students who are a graduating high school senior from Wesleyville (first preference) to a graduate of Iroquois High School (second preference) being a student from eastern Erie County, preferably, Harborcreek or North East (third preference).

    The Dr. Florence L. Burger Scholarship was established in 1986 by the late Dr. Florence L. Burger, a former faculty member in her last will and testament. The scholarship supports students majoring in education who are academically qualified and in financial need.

    The Dr. Mary Kay Vona Endowed Scholarship was established in 2016 by Dr. Mary Kay Vona. The scholarship supports students who are upperclassmen; full-time; female; from Erie County; and majoring in organizational leadership, finance, international business, management, or marketing.

    The Dr. Robert J. Izbicki Endowed Scholarship was established in 2019 by UCT of Erie. The scholarship supports undergraduate students majoring in special education.

    The Edward and Agnes Kern Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 by Mary Anne Springer, Class of 1963, in memory of her parents Edward and Agnes Kern, who lived by the principles of faith in God, hard work, and family values. The scholarship supports students at Mercyhurst.

    The Endowed Music Scholarship was established in 1998 by a donor who wished to remain anonymous. The scholarship supports students with financial need who are majoring in music.

    The Endowed Scholarship for Middle-Class Students was established in 2010 by Mercyhurst faculty and staff during the Engage Enrich Envision campaign. The scholarship supports middle-class students.

    The First National Bank Endowed Scholarship was established in 1990 by the First National Bank of Pennsylvania. The scholarship supports students from Erie County.

    The George Baumann Memorial Scholarship was established by Baumann Brothers Carpetowne, Inc. in memory of George Baumann. The scholarship supports deserving Erie County students.

    The Gilbert G. Brown Scholarship was established in October 1992 by Gilbert G. Brown. The scholarship supports deserving students with financial need.

    The Gloria McQuillen Williams Student-Athlete Scholarship was established in 1988 by the Syracuse Chapter of the Mercyhurst College Alumni Association in memory of Gloria McQuillen Williams, Class of 1947. The scholarship supports female students who are in their sophomore year and athletes. First preference should be given to students from Syracuse.

    The The Harriet Milloy Schaper `43 Scholarship Fund was established in 2018 by the Schaper family. The scholarship supports students who are communters in financial need.

    The Helen & Louis Gamble Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 in memory of Helen and Louis, parents of then-President Tom Gamble.

    The Hoss' Steak and Sea House Scholarship was established in 1990 by Hoss' Steak and Sea House corporate. The scholarship supports students who are majoring in hospitality management with financial need.

    The Hubbard Bert Karle Weber, Inc. Endowed Scholarship was established in 2010 by Mark Salvia.

    The Irene "Renie" DiPlacido Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1986 by Mayor of Erie Louis Tullio in memory of Renie, a dear friend. The scholarship supports students with financial need from Erie, PA.

    The Italo Cappabianca Endowed Scholarship was established in 2001 by Drs. Mark and Joyce Iutcovich in memory of Italo Cappabianca.

    The James & Elizabeth Nally Scholarship was established in 1989 by James Nally in memory of his parents, James and Elizabeth Nally. The scholarship supports female students in good academic standing and from the tri-state (PA, NY, OH) area.

    The James & Margaret Stolley Endowed Scholarship was established in 2008 by James and Margaret Stolley.

    The Janis Bodnar Hall '65 Scholarship was established in 2022 by Terry Hall in memory of his wife Janis. Janis was a member of the Class of 1965. After her passing, her loving husband of 43 years, Terry, started this scholarship in her memory. Janis was a beloved member and friend of the Class of 1965 and a loyal donor and supporter of Mercyhurst. Before attending Mercyhurst College, Janis graduated from West Middlesex High School. While at Mercyhurst, she received her bachelor's degree in education. She continued her education by attending Westminster College, where she received her master's degree in 1967. Janis attended Boston University and accumulated 30 hours toward her Ph.D. Janis was a teacher at West Middlesex Elementary School from 1965-1967. After receiving her master's degree, she became a guidance counselor for New Castle Union High School, serving from 1967-1980. In 1980, she became the guidance counselor at Conneaut High School. She served one year as Dean of Students and dedicated 25 years of service before retiring. The scholarship supports female students who are in financial need.

    The Jean Oshei Memorial Scholarship was established in 1990 by a donor who wished to remain anonymous.

    The The Jennifer Green '94 Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1998 in memory Jennifer Green, a young woman who epitomized both the ideas of Mercyhurst University and the spirit of hospitality. The scholarship was started by Jennifer's parents, friends, and family. The scholarship supports students in their junior or senior year who are majoring in hospitality management, as well as have the spirit of hospitality and exemplify exceptional character and leadership potential.

    The John & Cynthia Munch Endowed Scholarship was established in 2015 by John and Cynthia Munch. The scholarship supports students who are majoring in business and from Erie County.

    The John L. and Sadie Fitzgerald Memorial Scholarship was established by the estate of Elizabeth Ashton.

    The John M. Wolper Scholarship was established in 1992 by the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association Northwest Chapter in honor of John M. Wolper, the Chair of the then HRIM Department. The scholarship supports students majoring in hospitality management with outstanding individual merit. The scholarship should also be given to a person who fosters the best in people and has endeavors to enhance the food service industry.

    The John P. & Anna R. Ullrich Scholarship was established in 1999 by Rosemary Ullrich, Class of 1942, in honor of her parents, John and Anna. The scholarship supports a student majoring in Business Administration who, at the end of their sophomore year, has the highest QPA of the major.

    The John W. and Dorothy E. Garvey Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by then President of Mercyhurst College, William P. Garvey, Ph.D. The scholarship supports students who are in financial need from Oil City, PA, or Meadville, PA.

    The Joseph and Matilda Iutcovich Scholarship was established in 1988 by Dr. Mark Iutcovich in honor of his parents, Joseph and Matilda. The scholarship supports female students who are majoring in sociology or criminal justice and have a GPA of 3.4 or higher.

    The Joseph Talarico Scholarship was established in 2024 by the Class of 2024 as their Senior Class gift in honor of Mercyhurst student Joe Talarico, who tragically passed away. In honor of Joe, the scholarship supports students who are in financial need, majoring in intelligence studies, and on the Rowing team.

    The Judith Pitney Endowed Scholarship Honoring Sr. Mary Matthew Baltus was established in 2021 by Judith Pitney, Class of 1967, in honor of Sr. Mary Matthew Baltus, who was a professor of mathematics and astronomy. Her love of science, primarily space science; dry wit; and gift for illuminating math and science awakened comfort and joy in students, as well as endeared her as a teacher for over 60 years. The scholarship supports female students in financial need and majoring in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) disciplines.

    The June Anne Gjertsen Endowed Nursing Scholarship was established in 2010 by Maurice W. Gjertsen in memory of June Anne Hamilton Gjertsen. The scholarship supports students who are in financial need and majoring in nursing.

    The Kimmel and Porris Family Scholarship Fund was established in 1981 by the Kimmel and Porris families, Kimmel Pontiac, and the employees, customers, and friends of Kimmel Pontiac in memory of Sam and William Kimmel. The scholarship supports students from Erie County who wish to continue their education at Mercyhurst.

    The Leo W. Egan Scholarship in History was established in 1994 by Corrine Egan in memory of Leo W. Egan. The scholarship supports students in financial need majoring in history.

    The Loretta V. Power Endowed Scholarship for Education was established in 2002 by Loretta "Bunny" Power, Class of 1963. The scholarship supports students with financial need who are majoring in education.

    The Margaret Eckerd Brown Nursing Scholarship was established in 2001 by the Hamot Health Foundation in honor of Margaret Eckerd Brown. The scholarship supports full-time, undergraduate students majoring in nursing with financial need. First-year students must have completed one semester of nursing to apply and (first preference) will be given to UPMC employees. To apply, students must have a 3.0 GPA and provide two letters of recommendation. Recipients of the scholarship will be required to be employed at UPMC for a minimum of one year for every academic year he or she is awarded the scholarship. Recipients may seek employment at any UPMC business unit and must begin within six months of graduation. If employment does not begin within this period, the scholarship funds must be paid back to Mercyhurst University. If dismissed from UPMC during the required period of employment, scholarship funds received must be paid back. Nothing in this agreement guarantees the recipient employment with UPMC.      

    The Margaret Mary Reese Eustace Scholarship was established in 1991 by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous in honor of Margaret Mary Reese Eustace. The scholarship supports students majoring in education who are in good academic standing.

    The Marie C. Minunni Scholarship Fund was established in 1996 by Anthony Minunni and friends in memory of Marie to preserve her love of life and learning. The scholarship supports students in good academic standing and their sophomore, junior, or senior year.

    The Mark Marchant Endowed Percussion Scholarship was established in 2006 by friends and family in memory of Mark Marchant, a music teacher and musician in the D'Angelo School of Music at Mercyhurst College. The scholarship supports students in financial need and good academic standing, majoring in music with a concentration in percussion or music education with a 2.5 QPA.

    The Marquette Savings Bank Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 by Marquette Savings Bank. The scholarship supports students in financial need and reside in Erie and Crawford counties in PA.

    The Marriott Corporation Annual Scholarship was established in 1989 by the Marriott Corporation. This criteria, established by the Department of Hospitality Management, is that the scholarship supports upperclassmen with dedication to the hospitality industry.

    The Mary Beth Bierbauer Scholarship was established in 1990 by a donor who wished to remain anonymous in honor of Mary Beth Bierbauer, who passed away in a car accident while she was a student from 1987-88 and would have graduated with the Class of 1991 with a degree in elementary education and special education. The scholarship does not have a criteria requirement as it was established to honor Mary Beth.

    The Mary D'Angelo Scholarship Fund was established in 1989 by Dr. George and Mrs. Mary D'Angelo. The scholarship supports students with financial need majoring in music/performing arts.

    The Mary Meehan Memorial Art Scholarship was established by William and Helen Meehan in honor of their daughter Mary Meehan, who was a student at Mercyhurst when she passed away. Mary was an art major with a goal of becoming a high school art teacher. The scholarship supports students who are majoring in art.

    The Mary Rita Brennan '38 Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 by Mary Rita Brennan through her estate plans. The scholarship supports students at Mercyhurst.

    The Mary Stoffa Wieczorek Endowed Scholarship was established in 1985 and continued in 2018 by Judy Wieczorek. The scholarship supports students who (first preference) are a graduating senior from Sheffield Area High School and (second preference) majoring in art or art therapy.

    The Mercyhurst Community Scholarship was established in 1988-1989 by the Board of Trustees, President's associates, Carpe Diem Society, faculty, administration, and staff. The scholarship supports students in good academic standing and from the tri-state (PA, NY, OH) area.

    The Metro Health Endowed Nursing Scholarship was established in 2001 by the Metro Health Center. The scholarship supports students majoring in nursing.

    The Morong-Wykoff Maritime Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund was established in 2007 by Shelley Wykoff in memory of her grandfather, Fred W. Morong, who was a kind and gentle man who touched the lives of all who knew him. The scholarship supports students who are in financial need. Preference will be given to students who have previously received scholarship support from this scholarship who continue to make reasonable progress toward completion of their academic program.

    The Mosco Family Endowed Scholarship was established in 2007 by Marlene Mosco, Class of 1968, who, at the time, was the Chair of the Board of Trustees and President of PNC Bank locally.

    The Mother M. Borgia Egan Scholarship was established in 1998 by Patricia Curran, Class of 1952, in memory of Mother Borgia Egan, a Sister of Mercy, as well as the founder and first President of Mercyhurst College. The scholarship supports students majoring in education.

    The Msgr. John M. Dollinger Scholarship was established in 1999 by Msgr. John M. Dollinger to be gifted in his will. The scholarship supports students who graduated from Erie's Cathedral Preparatory School.

    The Music Board of Visitors Scholarship was established in 1999 by the members of the Board of Visitors of the D'Angelo School of Music. The scholarship supports students majoring in music.

    The Panos/Pulakos Endowed Scholarship was established in 1993. The scholarship supports students with financial need who are in good academic standing.

    The Patricia Baumann Hopsecger Scholarship was established in 1993 by Joe Baumann, a local business owner, in memory of his sister, Patricia "Patty" Baumann Hopsecger. The scholarship supports students interested in athletics who are from Erie, Pennsylvania. Patty was an avid sports fan, a native of Erie, PA, graduating from Villa Maria Academy in 1963. After working at East Erie Pharmacy for many years, she moved to Strongsville, Ohio, in 1986.

    The Patricia Green Conner '60 Endowed Scholarship was established in 2017 by Patricia Green Conner. The scholarship supports students who are in financial need.

    The Patricia J. Fessler '50 Endowed Scholarship for Hospitality Management and the Culinary Arts was established in 2005 by Robert Fessler in memory of Patricia, who contributed substantially to the four-star status of the DuPont Hotel. She exhibited the highest level of excellence in the food industry, and this scholarship has been established to give students the opportunity to secure their dreams in the hospitality industry. The scholarship supports full-time students majoring in hospitality management who are in good academic standing.

    The Pauline S. Scott Memorial Scholarship was established in 1994.

    The Peter G. Sardesai Scholarship was established in 1985 by Peter G. Sardesai. The scholarship supports students who are majoring in music (voice, piano, or strings).

    The Phillips Scholarship Fund was established in 1986 by the Phillips Charitable Trust in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Arthur William Phillips. The scholarship supports students from Venango, Clarion, Mercer, Crawford, or Butler counties.

    The PNC Bank Scholarship Fund was established in 1989 by PNC Bank. The scholarship supports students in financial need or good academic standing who have residency in PNC Bank's established market area for at least one year: Erie, Crawford, Mercer, Warren, Forest Elk, or McKean.

    The Professor Karen Christensen Williams Memorial Scholarship was established in 2019 by Roger and Mary Ann Christensen in memory of Professor Karen Christensen Williams who was a Mercyhurst Professor for many years until her death. The scholarship supports students who are majoring or minoring in Spanish and have a 3.0 GPA in the program. Preference is given to rising juniors in Spanish Education, then Spanish majors, and then Spanish minors. Students can apply for this scholarship by sending a cover letter that introduces themselves and explains their language goals, a resume, and an unofficial transcript to the Chair of Anthropology and World Languages, Alice Edwards.

    The Quinton Family Endowed Scholarship was established in 2015 by Gordon Quinton. The scholarship supports students who are (first preference) Canadian and (second preference) student-athletes.

    The Richard West Scholarship was established in 1988 by the late Virginia P. Vieser in memory of her son Richard West. The scholarship supports students in good academic standing who are majoring in education.

    The Rochelle George Wooding '71 Scholarship was established in 2022 by Dr. Barbara Chambers, Class of 1960, in memory of her dear friend and former student, Rochelle George Wooding '71. Rochelle George Wooding was a 1971 graduate of Mercyhurst College. In the '60s, Mercyhurst College had a program in which alumnae could encourage prospective students to visit their Alma Mater. Barbara was Rochelle's teacher and arranged for Rochelle to visit the college for an overnight stay. Rochelle often credited Barbara for introducing her to Mercyhurst, a place she felt truly changed her life. Rochelle was a magnetic person and succeeded at the highest levels, never stopping, regardless of any difficulties that came her way. At Mercyhurst, she was one of the first African American Presidents of the Student Government. Rochelle was a writer and very active in her church, as well as worked as the librarian in Chicago schools. Friends and family considered her to be a larger-than-life person! In establishing this endowed scholarship, Barbara Chambers honors her friendship with Rochelle George Wooding, along with their mutual appreciation of Mercyhurst College. In addition to their friendship, another commonality is that Barbara and Rochelle previously were given the Distinguished Alumni Award, the highest alumni honor bestowed on an alumnus. The scholarship supports female, African American students who are in financial need.

    The Roy and Rosanna Strausbaugh History Fellows Program was established in 2017 by Roy and Rosanna Strausbaugh. Roy was a Mercyhurst history professor for many years. The scholarship supports students who are majoring in history. The scholarship will help cover the costs of a summer field experience. Preference is given to an Erie County-based field experience. The recipient is determined by the Department of History based on scholarly merit and the potential value of the student's proposed project to both their career aspirations, as well as the community or site where the project or experience would be performed. All Strausbaugh Fellows shall be required to deliver a presentation of their work to the campus community in the fall semester to showcase their experience and help elevate the profile of the Strausbaugh Fellow program.

    The Ruth Bender Endowed Scholarship was established in 2020 by Rosella Kwitowski. The scholarship supports students majoring in the R.N. to BSN program, as well as those receiving their master's degree in nursing or degree in any of the Nursing Programs.

    The Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh Accounting Scholarship was established in 2001. The scholarship supports students majoring in accounting.

    The Service Master Endowed Scholarship was established in 1999.

    The Shirley Freeman George Scholarship was established in 2018 in memory of Shirley. The scholarship supports students in financial need and adult students completing an undergraduate degree.

    The Sisters of Mercy Endowed Scholarship was established in 2004 by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Regional Community of Erie. The scholarship supports students who are in financial need and enrolled in programs that were formerly based in the North East campus.

    The Social Work Scholarship was established in 1985 by Carl and Bonnie Triola. Carl taught as an adjunct in the Social Work Department and Bonnie graduated from Mercyhurst in 1968. The scholarship supports students who are studying social work.

    The Special Friend of the College Endowed Scholarship was established in 2004 by Mary Nelson, a friend of the college. The scholarship supports students in good academic standing and their junior or senior year, American, as well as from Erie County.

    The Sr. M. Geraldine Hull Scholarship was established in 1992 by Florence A. O'Neil Bernard '38 and her sister Mae C. O'Neil in memory of Sr. M. Geraldine Hull, a Sister of Mercy and honorary alumna. The scholarship supports students in financial need and exemplifies the spirit of Sr. M. Geraldine Hull carried throughout her life as a Sister of Mercy.

    The Sr. Mary Esther Malone Scholarship was established by Mary "Belle" Winston '41 in memory of Sr. Mary Esther Malone. The scholarship supports students in financial need and good academic standing.

    The Sr. Mary Rachel Weber Scholarship was established in memory of Sr. Mary Rachel Weber, a Mercyhurst College faculty member. The scholarship supports students majoring in hospitality management.

    The Sr. Maura Smith Scholarship was established in 2017 in memory of Sr. Maura Smith, a pioneer for sustainability at Mercyhurst College. In the 70s, she was instrumental in celebrating the first Earth Day and developing environmental studies at the college.

    The Stackpole-Hall Foundation Scholarship was established in 1982 by the Stackpole-Hall Foundation of St. Marys, PA. The scholarship supports students from Elk County who are in financial need and good academic standing.

    The Stephanie Melisz Supron '48 and Nicholas Supron Memorial Scholarship was established in 2014 by the Supron Family in memory of Stephanie and Nicholas Supron. The scholarship supports incoming female freshmen from the greater Buffalo, NY, area.

    The Teresa A'Hearn Brown Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 by Teresa's family in her honor as a loyal alumna of the college. The scholarship supports students majoring in business, education, or the liberal arts who are residents of PA or NJ. The scholarship recipient should also exemplify the spirit of Carpe Diem.

    The Timothy Brediger Scholarship was established in 1998 by the Burger King College Football Scholarship Program. The program was known for donating $1 million to a general scholarship fund in honor of college football seniors who maintain high academic standards, excel on the field, and are actively involved in the community. In 1997, Timothy Brediger was selected as the winner, and Burger King donated $10,000 to Mercyhurst in Brediger's name. In 2000, Justin Gibson won the award with $10,000 donated in his honor.

    The Vernon D. Dobbs, Ph.D., and Mary L. Dobbs Endowed Scholarship was established in 2008 by Vernon D. Dobbs, Ph.D. The scholarship supports students in financial need, as well as are African American and from Erie County with a 3.0 GPA.

    The William M. and Frances Schuster Scholarship Fund was established in 1998 by the William M. and Frances Schuster estate. The scholarship supports students in financial need, as well as those from Erie County and majoring in music.

    The Wolves Club of Erie Scholarship was established in 1987 by the Wolves Club of Erie. The scholarship supports students with financial need who are undergraduate residents of Erie County and in good academic standing.

    The Wolves Club Scholarship for the Performing and Visual Arts was established in 1989 by the Wolves Club of Erie. The scholarship supports students in financial need, as well as majoring in performing or visual arts and from Erie County.

    The Wuenschel/Gerboth Teaching Scholarship was established in 1989 by the estate of Nell G. Wuenschel in memory of her sister Augusta Gerboth. The scholarship supports students majoring in education.
