In an effort to provide certified K-12 teachers with a convenient opportunity to enhance their classroom instruction and further their careers, Mercyhurst University has partnered with PLS 3rd Learning of Buffalo, New York, to deliver classroom and online professional development courses.
Current teachers will be able to earn continuing education credits while engaging in interactive instruction with master facilitators. Participants will learn evidence-based strategies to apply in the classroom. They’ll discover new ways to motivate and engage learners to improve student achievement while elevating their own professional expertise.
The partnership begins this summer with one course, “Differentiated Instruction for Today's Classroom: EDU 502,” to be offered on Mercyhurst’s Erie campus Aug. 11-16. Course offerings, both at Mercyhurst and online, are expected to grow as the program evolves.
“Mercyhurst University’s Education Department is pleased to be partnering with PLS 3rd Learning to offer professional development opportunities for K-12 educators in both online and face-to-face environments,” said Dr. Leanne Roberts, dean of the Hafenmaier College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. “The longstanding, high-quality reputation of the company’s involvement in many facets of the education profession made our decision to work with Don Jacobs and the PLS 3rd Learning team an easy one.”
In response, Dr. Donald J. Jacobs, PLS 3rd Learning CEO, said, "We very much look forward to working with Mercyhurst University to help prepare and support educators across the region. This partnership will bring new depth to our shared mission of improving the life prospects of all students.”
PLS 3rd Learning is aligned with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) as an approved provider of professional development programming. It also maintains a well-established relationship with many of the Intermediate Units (IUs) across Pennsylvania.
