Mercyhurst University will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting with a new tree and a new location on Monday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m.
In years past, the university had hosted a live tree lighting outside the student union; this year, the administration decided to invest in a 30-foot artificial tree that could be positioned in the front of Old Main, where it would illuminate the statue of Mary.
In doing so, the intention is to honor the legacy of the Sisters of Mercy and remind ourselves that Mercyhurst continues to be a community alive in the Mercy tradition some 90 years after its founding.
Everyone on campus is invited to join in the festivities, which will include old-fashioned caroling and hot cocoa after Mercyhurst President Michael Victor flips the switch to light the Christmas tree.
The university will close on Wednesday, Nov. 22, for the beginning of the Thanksgiving holiday. Schedules resume as usual on Monday, Dec. 27.
