Carpe Diem.

Grounded in the ideals of service, hospitality and entrepreneurship that inspired our founders, a Mercyhurst education encourages the development of lifelong passions and engagement with the larger world. Inspired by our motto, "Carpe Diem," our faculty and students embrace innovation and leadership in service, as they make a difference within our community and around the world.

North East Instructional Site

Mercyhurst University’s instructional site in North East, Pennsylvania — a easy 20-minute drive from our Erie, Pennsylvania, campus — provides a convenient, state-of-the-art location for our nursing and allied health care programs, as well as Mercyhurst’s Municipal Police Academy.

Nursing students will hone their health care skills in our high-tech nursing arts laboratories, with computerized wireless mannequins that allow you to practice skills like checking blood pressure and vital signs, inserting catheters and IVs, changing dressings, and delivering babies. These facilities also offer hospital beds and bed stands, IV pumps, and computerized drug/medication carts like those found in actual hospitals. In addition, the Hirtzel Maternity and Pediatric Simulation Learning Center features four high-fidelity simulators for use in maternity and pediatric education, and our $1.2 million Hirtzel Human Anatomy and Forensic Anthropology Laboratory is one of the best-equipped cadaver labs in the country.

Students in our allied health care programs will also master real-world skills at our North East site. For example, Physical Therapist Assistant students will learn in a lab that includes hydrotherapy tanks, treatment tables, assistive devices, electrical stimulation units, and ultrasound machines. The Occupational Therapy Assistant lab features a fully functioning bathroom and kitchen to help you train patients in the activities of daily living.

At the North East instructional site, Municipal Police Academy cadets will receive hands-on training in proper weapons use, tactical self-defense, arresting procedures, vehicle operations, defensive driving, and other essential law enforcement skills.

In addition to the laboratories, classrooms, and clinical facilities at the North East instructional site, the Ridge Library Coffee Shop provides an on-campus dining option for our students. Students taking courses at this site will also have access to the full complement of student life, academic support, career services, and health/counseling resources on our main campus. Campus housing will also be available on the main campus.
