When the puck drops at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Mercyhurst University will be well represented on the ice. We’re proud to announce that four Lakers will be competing in ice hockey at this year’s Olympic Games: Ryan Zapolski with Team USA, Meghan Agosta and Bailey Bram with Team Canada, and Emma Nuutinen with Team Finland. Fellow Laker Vilma Tanskanen was also in contention for the Finnish team and has received an offer as first alternate.
That Mercyhurst’s men’s and women’s ice hockey programs have produced Olympic-caliber athletes comes as no surprise to those familiar with the Lakers’ storied spirit of competition. The drive to compete at the highest level while still embracing the identity of a student and scholar helps Laker athletes achieve success in the classroom, in the rink and in their professional lives.
