Assistant Professor of Insurance Risk Management
Gary Sullivan is Assistant Professor of the F. W. Hirt Erie Insurance Risk Management Program at Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA. He is responsible for developing the school’s new risk management curriculum for the Walker College of Business in collaboration with the Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences. Prior to joining Mercyhurst University, Gary enjoyed a 23-year career in with Auto-Owners Mutual Insurance and Erie Insurance. He had roles ranging from adjuster to executive. In his most recent position as Vice President, Property & Subrogation Claims for Erie Insurance, Gary was in charge of company policy, process, and procedure for claims handling in the property and subrogation disciplines. He ran several successful technology innovations and projects that improved customer service and operations, as well as reduced expenses. Gary's areas of expertise include blockchain, claims, property and casualty insurance operations, subrogation, claims management, legal liability, and property damage.
Gary has served various service and professional organizations including his recent roles as a member of the Property Liability Research Bureau Advisory Board and chairman/co-chairman of the Property Drone Consortium. Gary holds degrees from Lake Land College (A.S.), the University of Illinois (B.A.), the University of Pittsburgh (M.B.A), as well as several insurance industry designations including Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter. Gary is sought out as an industry expert through speaking engagements and industry publications, plus he is known as an innovator as he was named one of “Fifteen People to Watch in Insurance Technology” by Insurance Networking News.
