MIAC Live: Dorrance Dance

Wednesday, March 30, 2016 - 7:00pm
Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center

New York’s Dorrance Dance aims to honor tap dance’s uniquely beautiful history in a new and dynamically compelling context, not by stripping the form of its tradition, but by pushing it: rhythmically, aesthetically and conceptually. Street, club and experimental dance forms awake to the sound of furious rhythms, and find their boundaries missing. Tap dance, America’s most long-standing indigenous jazz vernacular, is here to receive its due.

Michelle Dorrance has led her company of all-star dancers to sold-out performances at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, the Kennedy Center, the Barcelona Tap Festival and more. 2015 has been a huge year for Dorrance, including her award as a 2015 MacArthur Genius and her Bessie Award for "The Blues Project." Now, it’s Erie’s turn to be a part of her incredible industry fame and experience the rhythms in a three-part flight of dance: tap blended with house music, tap plunged into blues, and solo acoustic tap. Feel the floors shake in this pulsing and visceral tap spectacular that can only be experienced live!

Tickets are $19 or $22 for adults, $16 or $19 for seniors and military, and $13 or $16 for students and youth. For tickets, call 814-824-3000 or visit miac.mercyhurst.edu
