Check out “A Choreographic Showcase: Shift Happens” on Monday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m. in Walker Recital Hall. The concert culminates a semester of work by students in Solveig Santillano’s Choreography II class. Each student chose the theme, choreographic style, music and dancers for their final project. The evening will feature 13 original works that explore topics including friendship, deception, anxiety, community, coming of age, gender and the four elements. Two pieces draw on literary references, including a poem by Rupi Kaur that empowers women to resist objectification, and a piece inspired by The Pull of the Ocean that creates the architecture of the sea. Two other works reference urban settings. Track 4, Grand Central Terminal, gives us the late-night groove of a subway platform, and “Sonder” bookends a steamy Duke Ellington with city soundscape evoking an atmosphere of longing and aloneness that one might experience when walking on a busy street among strangers. Admission is free. Call 814-824-2256 for more information.
