The Mercyhurst Theatre Program, in conjunction with the Mercyhurst English Department’s Literary Festival, will welcome theatre, film and television actress Elizabeth Ashley to campus for an onstage conversation about her legendary career. Ashley made her Broadway debut in 1959 in Dore Shary’s The Highest Tree, and her Broadway credits include August: Osage County, Dividing The Estate, Enchanted April, Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, Take Her, She’s Mine (Tony and Theatre World Awards), Barefoot in the Park (second Tony nomination), The Skin of Our Teeth, Shaw’s Caesar and Cleopatra, Legend, Hide and Seek, and Agnes of God. She has been seen on television in shows including A&E’s The Rope, Svengali, Evening Shade, Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU and HBO’s Treme. Ashley was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the American Film Institute and served on the first National Council of the Arts during the administrations of Presidents Kennedy and Johnson and the President’s Committee for the Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Awards. She is currently starring in the Broadway revival of You Can't Take It With You, opposite James Earl Jones.
