Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health and Wellness

Position Summary:The Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health and Wellness will work under the supervision of the director of athletics and vice president for student life to supervise the care of NCAA/varsity student-athletes.  The fundamental responsibility of the position is to support student-athlete success by enhancing his or her overall health and well-being.  Optimal health is a balance of many different components and this position primarily will focus on providing the best health care and performance services, while also integrating other areas of the wellness wheel such as environmental, spiritual, social, occupational and financial health in a holistic approach.  Minorities and women are strongly encouraged to apply.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for institution’s athletic health care administration and delivery. 
    • Provide senior leadership for all aspects of athletic training services, with specific focus on support for the overall emotional, physical, environmental, spiritual, social, occupational and financial health and well-being of student-athletes.
    • Coordinate all medical services, records, insurance and physician services contracted to support student-athletes, including oversight of athletic training services, nutrition and strength and conditioning personnel.
    • Foster a cooperative and collaborative approach to academic performance, sports performance, athletic training services and integrated health to ensure best care and performance services are available to student-athletes. 
  • Athletic trainer coverage for teams as assigned, limited travel responsibilities. 
  • Partner with the Student Health and Counseling Center to promote a collaborative and integrated approach to student-athlete well-being. 
  • Enrich the student-athlete experience through design and implementation of a comprehensive wellness plan to complement curriculum requirements and the University’s mission-driven commitment to community engagement and service learning. 
  • Conduct assessment to acquire relevant data about wellness issues and student-athlete experiences. 

Qualifications:Master’s degree in health administration, sports administration or related field. National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification.  Possess or ability to obtain a State of Pennsylvania Athletic Training License. Progressively responsible experience in health administration/management or commensurate experience.
