Job Description

Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professorship in the Department of Intelligence Studies of the Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences for the 2016-2017 academic year. The Erie, PA campus position begins August 22, 2016 and has the possibility of renewal as a full-time tenure-track faculty position. To be hired at the visiting assistant professor level, applicants should possess a Ph.D., other terminal degree, and/or significant experience in a discipline related to intelligence studies (ABDs are encouraged to apply).  Special attention will be given to those applicants with practitioner experience and the ability to manage applied analytic projects.  Applications will also be considered from those individuals who possess a graduate degree (M.S., M.B.A, M.A., etc.), extensive practitioner experience, and the ability to manage applied analytic projects; however, hiring will be at the visiting instructor level without a tenure-track option.

 

Job Summary

Successful candidates will teach introductory and applied courses in intelligence analysis at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in addition to the ability to teach undergraduate or graduate courses in at least one or more of the following areas:

  • Cyber threat analysis
  • Competitive intelligence or intelligence for the private sector
  • Anti-money laundering analysis for financial institutions
  • Intelligence support to corporate security and threat management for private enterprise
  • Data science and data analysis focusing on information management for exploring, visualizing, processing and analyzing very large data sets; predictive modeling; and/or analytic reporting

In addition to instruction, duties will include curriculum development, service to the profession, and participation in University and Ridge School activities including student mentoring, development of internship and employment opportunities, and grant or contractual work with the Ridge College’s Institute. The selected candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, continued learning in their field, academic scholarship, and public scholarship.

The Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences is an interdisciplinary school that brings together the skill set of the intelligence professional, the math and computer systems expert, and the communications specialist and produces career professional comfortable in all three domains.  The college meets these objectives through a challenging curriculum that emphasizes information collection, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and the application of technology to assist in information management, and knowledge transfer (big data). The importance of multi-media, social media and data visualization as communication platforms is emphasized.
