VeloSano sets course for Mercyhurst

Wednesday, July 16, 2014

Billed as more than a fundraising event, more than a bike ride, VeloSano is a movement to cure cancer and it’s coming to Mercyhurst University on Saturday, July 19. Roughly translated, VeloSano means “swift cure” in Latin.

The charity cycling event, which originates in Cleveland and benefits cancer research at the Cleveland Clinic, is expected to bring an estimated 125 cyclists to Erie. Participants have chosen rides of various durations between Cleveland and Erie, starting at 25 miles; the die-hard, two-day riders will cruise into Erie’s Liberty Park between 2 and 6 p.m. and be shuttled to Mercyhurst University as their overnight venue.

At Mercyhurst, they’ll gather for a festive evening of food, live entertainment and camaraderie, before retiring to Warde Hall for the night and an early bike trip back to Cleveland Sunday morning.

Each of the two-day riders have made a minimum fundraising commitment of $2,000; riders traveling shorter distances are contributing sponsorship funds starting at $1,000 and up.
