Mercyhurst H1N1 Updates

The first probable case of H1N1 was reported at Mercyhurst during the week of Oct. 12. See Dr. Gerry Tobin's message to the college community below:

"The Mercyhurst College Cohen Student Health Center has confirmed that one of our students has tested positive for the Influenza A virus, which is most likely H1N1 (swine flu). The student became ill during last week’s fall break and visited an off-campus medical facility, where the student tested positive for the flu virus. The student recovered at home and is now well and back in class. There have been anecdotal reports of other students on campus having flu-like symptoms, although no official confirmation of any other cases of Influenza A have been received through the health center. At this time, we urge all members of the college community to continue to take proactive self-care measures to control the spread of germs. Further, we remind students with symptoms to be evaluated at the student health center. Faculty and staff are encouraged to report to their supervisor, stay home and limit contact with others if they experience flu-like symptoms. In the meantime, please rest assured that we are working closely with the Erie County and Pennsylvania health departments to monitor flu conditions and make decisions about the best steps to take.
