Supervision
To supervise a co-op, intern or extern:
- Periodically check the student's area to see that the student is carrying out his/her responsibilities and to see that the student is adjusting well to the work environment.
- Meet regularly with the student to make him/her feel welcome and give him/her a sense that the work performed is important.
- Plan progressively more difficult work assignments in an effort to showcase a challenging, rewarding and professional work environment.
- Plan for the student's personal development by having him/her involved with company meetings and social events.
- Plan to discuss the student's progress with the College Placement Coordinator twice every academic term.
- Plan to have an exit interview with the student. This will help you both to evaluate the experience and to plan for any future employment potential.
- Plan to write the student a Letter of Recommendation if the student has successfully completed all phases of the placement. Letters of Recommendation can be sent on company letterhead directly to the Office of Career Services.
