Establishing a Program
To establish co-op, intern or extern training
- Provide a detailed job description of the proposed learning experience.
- Provide a meaningful on-the-job experience for our students by developing a program that gives increasing challenges and responsibility to the student.
- Assign a well-qualified supervisor to work closely with the new student.
- Plan a series of experiences for the student in order that the experiences create an attractive and viable program.
- Assist the students in meeting the defined measurable learning objectives.
- Pay a salary to your student that is fair and competitive.
- Providing fringe benefits is not a requirement of the program, however, the more a student feels a part of the organization, the more likely he/she will want to be a permanent employee.
- Plan to host a short on-site visit from a Mercyhurst College Coordinator once per academic term. (Within a reasonable geographical boundary).
- Plan to complete a mid-term and final evaluation form on the student's performance'(forms are supplied by the college).
- Provide secure student housing or actively assist in this process (i.e. college dorms, student apartment complex, hotel rooms, etc.) if you have out of town placements.
