Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry serves as the spiritual presence for the entire campus community. As a Catholic institution offering the Mass, sacraments and Catholic doctrine and tradition, Mercyhurst also provides a spiritually rich environment for all students to deepen their relationship with God. A Protestant minister is also available to support students' needs.

Located next to the information desk in the Carolyn Herrmann Student Union, the Campus Ministry lounge offers a welcoming atmosphere and serves as the locus of opportunities for students from many different religious traditions. Various experiences exist for personal spiritual growth through worship services, retreats, prayer groups, Bible study gatherings, and praise and worship, as well as pastoral counseling and spiritual direction with the campus ministers or college chaplain. Since one's faith life is strengthened through service to those in need, a variety of works of mercy is also available, such as visiting the elderly at St. Mary's Home, serving the poor at Emmaus Soup Kitchen, working with inner city children at Kid's Café, building homes with our own collegiate chapter of Habitat for Humanity, or going on one of the annual mission trips to Honduras or Mexico. Justice issues are addressed through campus ministry groups such as Pax Christi, Pro-Life, Bread for the World, Moratorium and many others.
