One of the world’s most popular Broadway/Hollywood/TV crossover stars, Aaron Tveit, comes to Mercyhurst University May 3, followed by an entourage of fans from 25 states and three foreign countries.

“The geographical vastness of our audience for Tveit’s concert is a testament to his astonishing talent and devoted fanbase but also to how the Mercyhurst Institute for Arts & Culture has become a premier destination for world-class performing arts experiences,” said MIAC Director Dr. Brett Johnson.

There’s an almost feverish adoration for Tveit’s talent and his looks. He’s been anointed “Broadway’s Favorite Boyfriend” and “Broadway’s Wonder Boy.” There’s even a group of fans calling themselves the “Tveitertots.”

Emily Liebenberg of San Diego, California, who plans to travel to Erie for Tveit’s Mercyhurst appearance, has seen him in “Moulin Rouge” three times on Broadway.

“I became a massive fan after that, and did some good social media scouring, and found he does lots of live concerts like this, and it became my mission to see one,” she said. “After the Covid shutdowns and feeling trapped at home for so long, I renewed my determination to get out there and have adventures! And what better adventure is there than to travel for live music by a fantastic artist? I am really excited to see Aaron perform live just as himself and not part of a bigger show.”

Tveit earned a Tony Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award leading the cast of the world premiere production of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.” In July 2021, he was seen in Apple TV+’s new series “Schmigadoon!” and he currently appears in season two. He also appeared in Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Stories” and Audible and Broadway Video’s podcast “Hit Job.”

Television audiences know him from the USA network series “Graceland,” the CBS comic-thriller “Braindead,” and the Emmy Award-winning television musical “Grease: Live,” where he played Danny Zuko opposite Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens. Most recently, Tveit was seen in Hallmark’s “One Royal Holiday.” He has also had numerous guest-starring roles on “The Good Fight,” “Gossip Girl,” “The Good Wife,” “Ugly Betty,” and “Law & Order: SVU.”

Tveit’s film credits include “Les Miserables,” where he portrayed the character Enjolras alongside Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, and Russell Crowe, “Out of the Blue,” “Created Equal,” “Better Off Single,” “Undrafted,” “Premium Rush,” “Howl,” and “Ghost Town.”

“The Aaron Tveit concert is an exceptional example, but patrons routinely travel from other states to attend our performances,” Johnson said. “For example, we had ticket holders from Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Michigan, Massachusetts, Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania at Betty Buckley’s September 2022 concert. We are definitely developing a national profile.”
