Mercyhurst University President Michael T. Victor and his cabinet will serve lunch to patrons of the Emmaus Soup Kitchen on Saturday, Nov. 21, as part of the administration’s personal commitment to service.
“If you believe deep down inside that something is important, you have to live it; words can be hollow without action,” Victor said. “I believe in service and I believe in leading by example.”
As the father of two daughters, now grown, Victor can remember doing service projects with them as children and how meaninful it felt to give back. Now, as leader of an institution committed to service by virtue of its Mercy mission, Victor has elected to show his commitment to an organization that Mercyhurst shares a 22-year history with – Emmaus Soup Kitchen, 218 E. 11th St.
According to Emmaus Ministries Director Sister Mary Miller, Mercyhurst faculty and students started serving on the first Tuesday of every month, as it still does, in October 1992. A year later, the university added Saturdays to its volunteer effort at the soup kitchen.
Victor's cabinet includes David Dausey, Hoa Nguyen, Laura Zirkle, Joe Howard, Jeanette Britt, Monsignor David Rubino and Sister Lisa Mary McCartney.
