Hundreds of clients at 10 Erie area social service agencies had their Christmas holiday brightened by gifts of clothing, toys, personal and household items contributed by students of the Mercyhurst University Public Health Department.
Donations were given to SafeNet, Erie D.A.W.N., Caring Closet, House of Mercy, Soldiers and Sailors Home, Bethany Outreach Center, Mercy Center for Women, Mental Health Association, Erie United Methodist Alliance and Sisters of Saint Joseph Neighborhood Network.
During fall semester, Dr. James Teufel, assistant professor of public health, and his student research assistant, junior Susan Baltes, contacted Erie area social service organizations to find their needs for the holidays and coming year. They then rallied the support of public health students, who collected 94 bags of clothing, 54 boxes of disposable diapers and 29 bags of books, toys, bedding, towels, toiletries and kitchen items. The large volume of items helped to serve hundreds of clients in need.
