NRO to recognize community heroes

The Neighborhood Resource Organization (NRO) at Mercyhurst University announces the return of an award program designed to recognize leaders in the community whose efforts, contributions and good deeds contribute to a strong community.

The Good Neighbor Award program honors individuals, organizations, neighborhoods and businesses in the Erie community that are outstanding examples of good neighbors through their commitment to building, preserving, maintaining and improving the quality of life in our community.

“Everyone has the potential to be a Good Neighbor,“  said Dave Deter, NRO executive director, “and the best way to have good neighbors is to be one.”

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 30. Nomination forms and guidelines are available at the NRO website at or by contacting the NRO office, 509 E. 26th St., Erie, PA, 16504. Nominations can be mailed to or dropped off at the office.

Nominations will be accepted in the following categories:

  • Neighborhood Watch, Association or Organization
  • Most Improved Neighborhood Appearance
  • Public Safety Personnel (including Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Rescue Squad, Ambulance Service, and Emergency Management)
  • Individual Citizen (Adult)
  • Youth (18 & Under)
  • Community Ally
  • Corporate Partner

Good Neighbor Award winners will be announced in mid-October.
