Young visitors will have the opportunity to decorate spooky treats with Mercyhurst North East culinary students this Halloween.
Around 10 kindergarteners from St. Gregory School will join students from the OASIS Program for the annual festive event at 9:45 a.m. Oct. 31 in the Stone Chapel Dining Room. The OASIS program is a one-year culinary and hospitality training program for adults with intellectual disabilities. The OASIS students will bake the sweets for the youngsters, who will finish decorating them with Halloween flair.
This marks another opportunity to celebrate the longstanding collaboration between the North East campus and St. Gregory’s, noted Beth Ann Sheldon, director of the culinary and hospitality management programs at both Erie and North East.
"These events expose our students to an age group they don't normally get to interact with, and it connects the culinary arts to service learning," she said. "And it's just one more way that we at Mercyhurst North East can stay connected to the community."
