Mercyhurst North East has been selected as one of the 50 most affordable small colleges for a degree in hospitality administration and management for 2015, according to Best Hospitality Degrees.
To develop these rankings, Best Hospitality Degrees consulted NCES College Navigator, examining schools with enrollment under 3,000 students and offering an associate or bachelor’s degree in one of the following majors:
Hospitality Administration/Management, General
Hospitality Administration/Management, Other
Hotel, Motel, and Restaurant Management
From the nearly 150 schools, the top 50 were chosen. The rankings considered the lowest net price: the net price is the average amount paid by first-year students. It represents tuiton and fees minus average awards.
The most expensive school came in at $17,000 average net, and the least expensive at less than $1,000 average net. And not a single school in the top 20 exceeded a net price of $10,000 per year.
The rankings suggest the depth and breadth of what students can find in an affordable hospitality degree – a degree that could very well set them on a path to a rewarding and profitable career.
"As we get underway with the 20th freshman class of culinary arts students at Mercyhurst North East, it is wonderful to see a national ranking of our great program that continues to serve the highly competitive field of food and hospitality professionals,” said Beth Ann Sheldon, director of hospitality manager and the Culinary and Wine Institute at MNE. “We consistently have more open positions than graduates, proving the need for more recruits and continued expansion of the program to enable our industry partners to meet their hiring needs. As an early alumnus of the program myself, I couldn't be more proud of the recognition of the value of this degree."
