MNE dean’s podcast offers advice for student affairs professionals

Monday, April 21, 2014

Student affairs professionals around the world are tuning in to some sound advice from Darcey Kemp, dean of students at Mercyhurst University – The North East Campus, on a weekly podcast.

Kemp was selected to be a featured guest on The Student Affairs Spectacular Podcast, an online resource for student life administrators in higher education sponsored by The Student Affairs Collective.

As the adviser for the Mercyhurst North East chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success, Kemp helped grow the group into one of Mercyhurst North East most popular and active student groups.

In the podcast, she addresses how to best advise college student organizations, how to help get an organization off the ground, and – most importantly – how to maintain the strength of a student group as it transitions from year to year.

“I’m passionate about advising student groups and in particular, those with a strong leadership development component,” Kemp said. “To be recognized by a national organization as a student affairs professional who can provide meaningful advice on effectively engaging students in the co-curricular setting is empowering. I’m grateful for the opportunity to showcase my experience in advising student leaders for the past decade.”

Just for fun, Kemp also chatted with podcast hosts Tom Krieglstein and Dustin Ramsdell about how popular series Game of Thrones and Divergent relate to student development.

Kemp's episode of the podcast, No. 7, is available for streaming or download here.
