MIAC brings Grammy-winning jazz collective Snarky Puppy to Erie March 20

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Expect to feel the groove. The Mercyhurst Institute for Arts & Culture presents Grammy-winning jazz collective Snarky Puppy live at The Crooked i on Thursday, March 20. Doors open at 7 p.m., with eclectic jazz singer/songwriter Alison Wedding warming up the crowd as the opening act.

Winner of the 2014 “Best R&B Performance” Grammy and named to the iTunes "Best of 2012 Albums" in the jazz category, Snarky Puppy has gone from an underground secret to one of the most internationally respected names in instrumental music – all while keeping their thumb on the pulse of the youth jazz movement. Members of the group perform regularly with artists like Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Kirk Franklin, Justin Timberlake, Roy Hargrove, and Marcus Miller among others.

With a deep respect for their jazz roots and a welcome attitude for sonic improvisation, this collective is sure to please critical and carefree audiences alike.

Snarky Puppy, now based in Brooklyn, N.Y., was founded at the University of North Texas and is led by bassist/guitarist/composer/arranger Michael League. In addition to performing as an ensemble, Snarky Puppy also works as a production team and session band for individual artists. Additionally, the group is enthusiastically committed to spreading their passion for music through education and community outreach, partnering with colleges, high schools and middle schools around the world and with groups like ROAM (Roots Of American Music) in inner city Cleveland and the Music Lab at Jefferson Center in Roanoke, Va.

Don’t miss Snarky Puppy at The Crooked I on March 20. This tour engagement of Snarky Puppy is funded through the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation's Jazz Touring Network program with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. For tickets, call the Box Office at 814-824-3000 or visit
