Mercyhurst welcomes 16 new faculty

Sixteen new faculty members will join Mercyhurst Erie in the 2015-2016 academic year.

Brian Reed, Ph.D., dean of faculty, describes the class as an exciting group of talented academics from a wide variety of disciplines. 

“There are well-seasoned faculty who will find a home in strong and well-established departments, and newly minted Ph.D.s with passionate research agendas and a commitment to distinction in the classroom who will be moving into new and growing departments,” Reed said.

He added, “As we continually grow and renew ourselves, the Mercyhurst faculty remains vibrant, passionate and committed to excellence.” 

Two new faculty will join Mercyhurst’s expanding Intensive English Program. Julee Ann Strek and Janelle Newman, both certified ESL teachers, will assist the school’s growing international population.

Also welcoming two new faculty members are the departments of business, criminal justice and mathematics. Departments adding new faculty members also include education, English, intelligence studies, interior design, nursing, physics, public health and sports medicine.

Six visiting lecturers will also join Mercyhurst as Merton Humanities Fellows. The fellowship program, founded in 2014, brings advanced doctoral students and post-doctoral candidates to campus for a year to hone their teaching skills as they prepare to enter the job market.
