Mercyhurst unveils new ride for student-athletes

Thursday, October 15, 2015

When Mercyhurst’s athletic teams hit the highways for game day, they’ll be boarding new university-branded buses that will make it unmistakeably clear: Mercyhurst is in the House!

The two new MU buses, which the university is leasing, made their debut on campus this morning, parking in the front circle for all to see. Mercyhurst President Michael Victor was the first to board the new ride, above.

“This is a spectacular symbol of Mercyhurst University,” he said. “Our students are going to love it. It has Wifi, TVs and it looks impressive driving down the highway.”

The sides of the 56-seat white buses showcase the traditional Mercyhurst University logo and include the address on the back panel, while the stylish interior features spacious and comfortable seating and other amenities, said Athletic Director Joe Kimball.

The leased vehicles replace the commercial passenger buses the university had previously rented, and provide numerous advantages, not the least of which is a cost savings, said Vice President for Student Life Laura Zirkle.

“This not only is a cost-saving measure,” she said, “but it is a great marketing opportunity when our athletic teams can arrive in buses that let everyone know Mercyhurst is in the House.”

Zirkle also pointed out that when athletics is not using the buses, they will be made available to other campus groups, among them the admissions department, which will use them to transport local school students to Mercyhurst for visits.

The buses are expected to make their first road trip next week.
