Mercyhurst University has been nationally ranked among the leading private schools and colleges for fashion merchandising, coming in at #16 out of the top 25.
Leading the way is the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, with which Mercyhurst maintains a Visiting Student Program. By studying at FIT during their junior or senior year, fashion merchandising students will graduate with both a bachelor’s degree from Mercyhurst and an associate degree from FIT.
Others among the top 25 fashion merchandising schools are Baylor University in Waco, Texas, Drexel University in Philadelphia, the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia.
In preparing the 2015 rankings, Fashion-Schools.org considered hundreds of schools in the US that offered programs geared toward fashion design and fashion merchandising. In the end, the organization sought to give students access to ample information so they could make an informed decision about the school they choose to attend and the program they pursue.
The criteria used in developing the list includes: academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of the program and faculty, value as it relates to tuition and indebtedness and geographic location.
According to the rankings’ website: “The Walker School of Business at Mercyhurst offers several programs for aspiring fashion merchandisers including a BS in Fashion Merchandising and a Fashion Studies Minor. Mercyhurst’s fashion merchandising program includes participation in the Mercyhurst Fashion Council, study tours of “Fashion Capitals” of the world, and the opportunity to live and learn in New York City through the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) Visiting Student Program.
Internship opportunities in Boston, New York, and other cities are also on the menu as well as participation in a variety of campus-based fashion shows. Mercyhurst graduates have been hired by major companies such as Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana, Macy’s, Nine West, Levi Strauss and Co., Express, American Eagle, and others."
