Mercyhurst education program achieves top-50 ranking

Monday, March 13, 2017

Mercyhurst University has been ranked among the top 50 best colleges and universities in the area of education and teaching programs, according to a leading resource provider of higher education information, the Community for Accredited Online Schools.

“There is always a steady demand for well-educated, qualified teachers,” said Doug Jones, CEO and founder of “These schools have demonstrated strength in their teaching and education degree programs with curriculum and resources that set their students up for future success running a classroom.”

To earn a spot on the best programs list, schools were judged on such criteria as student/teacher ratios, employment services, student resources, graduation rates and financial aid availability.

“Mercyhurst University has a longstanding reputation for producing teachers who have significant impact on children throughout the country and around the world,” said Dr. Leanne Roberts, dean of the Hafenmaier College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. “Our program offers a unique opportunity to preservice teachers by blending an emphasis on the implementation of evidence-based practices in the field, extensive clinical experiences and remaining focused on the mission of Mercyhurst that aims to create leaders in justice and service. This is a well-deserved recognition.”
