National recognition comes to Alpha Beta Pi, the Mercyhurst University chapter of Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, on two fronts this year, a hefty accomplishment considering there are more than 650 active chapters nationwide.
First, it was chosen as one of 11 recipients of the 2016-2017 Professional Development Chapter Program Award in recognition of its annual Teaching and Learning Expo offered in November. The expo exposes education majors to current topics in the field of education, with presentations from both new and veteran teachers, while providing a variety of practical skills they’ll use during their teaching careers.
Secondly, the Mercyhurst chapter joins six other recipients in earning the 2016-2017 Community Service Chapter Program Award, which acknowledged its community service work with the shoebox holiday gifts project for Operation Christmas Child and Carpe Diem Academy students.
“With more than 650 chapters completing multiple programs annually in all categories, this is quite an accomplishment,” said chapter adviser and assistant education professor Dr. Sarah Howorth. “I am so proud of our KDP honor society members.”
Howorth will join chapter members Kaleigh Ruggiero, Morgan Wrangler and Miranda Peters in accepting the awards during chapter convocation events in Pittsburgh this October.
