Mercyhurst earns accolades for online intel program

Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Already recognized as the largest academic enterprise of its kind in the nation, the intelligence studies program at Mercyhurst University has been ranked #21 among the Best Homeland Security Colleges Online by SuccessfulStudent.org.

The homeland security emphasis is just part of the overall intelligence studies program at Mercyhurst, which prepares students for intelligence careers in national security, law enforcement and business. The online student population comprises 18 percent of the entire intelligence studies student population. The online curriculum is an offered through the department’s graduate programs.

In creating the ranking, SuccessfulStudent.org focused on such factors as academic reputation, variety of courses, student resources, and more.

“We have a deserved reputation for quality and expertise in providing intelligence studies education,” said Jim Breckenridge, dean of the Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences. “We are deeply proud of this recognition and of the exceptional performance of our students and faculty.”

With the increased demand for those experienced in homeland security, many colleges and universities have expanded criminal justice programs or created their own homeland security programs. Mercyhurst saw the need early on, pioneering a program in intelligence studies more than 22 years ago.

“From fighting and preventing local and national terrorist attacks to learning about the juvenile justice system, the programs listed below are comprehensive in scope and are often taught by field experienced professors,” according to the SuccessfulStudent.org website. See complete list here.
