Father David McCallum, S.J., vice president for Mission Integration and Development at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York, will celebrate the traditional Mass of the Holy Spirit at Mercyhurst University on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 11:15 a.m. in Christ the King Chapel.
The mass, which marks the spiritual beginning of the academic year, will be followed by a picnic in the area bounded by Munson Plaza and Garvey Park at 12:30 p.m.
In his role as vice president, McCallum assists the enrollment management team as liaison with Jesuit and Catholic prep schools in metropolitan New York and Western New York. His efforts help Le Moyne to solidify relationships with these schools and their communities.
Another focus is in deepening his ongoing work with Le Moyne's advancement team by managing existing and developing relationships with the college’s alumni and friends.
Following graduation in 1990 from Le Moyne College with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Integral Honors, McCallum’s education for ordination included a master’s degree in philosophy from Fordham University, and both a Master of Divinity and a Licentiate degree in theology from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Ordained in 2001, McCallum has provided hundreds of workshops and retreats, as well as spiritual direction and supervision for spiritual directors. In 2008, he completed his doctorate in Adult Learning and Leadership at Columbia University, Teachers College, on the implications of adult developmental maturation for leadership capacity.
Beginning in the fall of 2009, McCallum served as the special assistant to the president, as well as teaching leadership in the Management Division (now the Madden School of Business). In 2011, he became Le Moyne’s first director of Mission & Identity, and from the fall of 2012 until the spring of 2014, he served as the interim dean of the Madden School.
