On behalf of the Pennsylvania Art Education Association, its president and Mercyhurst University art education director Mary Elizabeth Meier, Ph.D., accepted the 2014 Partner Award from the Educational Policy and Leadership Center Sept. 22 in Harrisburg.
The EPLC Partner Award is presented annually to one or more organizations that have worked with EPLC on various initiatives and activities. Meier was among four other arts education leaders from around the state who were recognized for leadership and partnership to advance arts and education policy in the commonwealth.
EPLC President Ron Cowell described this year’s four recipients: “These four arts education organizations, representing teachers of visual arts, music, dance and theater, have played a large role in the progress of EPLC’s Arts and Education initiative during the past five years. They have each made significant contributions to the development and dissemination of the EPLC’s 2012 Creating Pennsylvania's Future Through Arts and Education report…they have developed and advocated for a public policy agenda that has important implications for all students, educators and arts education throughout Pennsylvania.”
