Dr. James Adovasio, director of the Mercyhurst Archaeological Institute, is featured in Wood Design & Building magazine's fall cover story on the Meadowcroft Rockshelter near Pittsburgh, Pa. Adovasio is the principal excavator of Meadowcroft and consulted on the recent construction of an impressive visitors' center highlighting the historic archaeological find. “Accelerated Analysis: The Mercyhurst Method: Agility and Speed for the 21st Century” is a title of an article written by Mercyhurst alumni Diane Chido and Mike Lyden just published in Competitive Intelligence Magazine. The article discusses a method they developed and used in Mercyhurst’s applied intelligence graduate program. Mercyhurst Lakers women's rowing team captain Bethany Brun is featured in the "Dayton Daily News" about her athletic career and the people who have inspired her. Alumni

Mercyhurst intelligence studies graduate Amanda Post, Class of 2008, continues to distinguish herself. Here she's interviewed about the use of fraud detection software in a story featured in "Government Computer News." Earlier this year, she was named to the ranks of the Federal 100, which recognizes individuals from government, industry and academia who have made significant contributions to the federal informational technology community. Before that, she was honored as Rookie of the Year by her employer, SRA International. Read the article in the Government Computer News.

The "Pittsburgh Tribune-Review" conducted an interview July 29 with Mercyhurst archaeologist Dr. James Adovasio via satellite phone from the Gulf of Mexico, where he is leading an underwater exploration off the Florida coast for evidence of early Americans. The New Mexico Free Press did a story on the new archaeology field school uniting Mercyhurst College and Southern Methodist University at SMU's Taos, N.M., campus. Mercyhurst historic archaeologist Judith Thomas is featured. Read more about the new archaeology field school.

The May-June issue of Evidence Technology magazine features an interview with Mercyhurst forensic anthropologist Dr. Steven Symes, who speaks about his work in the field of sharp force trauma and burned bone trauma. The magazine's cover photo also was furnished by Symes.

The Meadowcroft Rockshelter, excavated under the leadership of Mercyhurst Archaeological Institute Director Dr. James Adovasio, is the subject of a travel feature carried in The Dallas Morning News. The site in Avella, 30 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, is now a National Historic Landmark.

The Mercyhurst College intelligence studies program is featured in an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education about the burgeoning interdisciplinary field of intelligence studies and the droves of students the nation's academic programs, including Mercyhurst's, are attracting. The article by Peter Monaghan from the March 20 issue is only available by subscription. Mercyhurst's assistant professor of intelligence studies Stephen Marrin is quoted in the article, which makes the point that scholars in the field are often retired intelligence specialists. Since much of the field is devoted to the way analysts work "it's hard to obtain credibility unless you have a certain degree of practical experience," noted Marrin. Mercyhurst's Intel faculty is widely known for its healthy complement of former intelligence specialists.

Mercyhurst College forensic anthropologist Dr. Dennis Dirkmaat is interviewed in this Associated Press story about his leadership in coordinating the recovery of remains from the site of a fatal plane crash near Buffalo, N.Y., that occurred Feb. 12. Dirkmaat, along with fellow forensic anthropologist Dr. Steven Symes, and a team of graduate students responded to the scene.
