The Mercyhurst University Dance Department continues the 2015-16 season with its holiday concert, ‘Tis the Season with The Little Match Girl, Dec. 4 and 5 at the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center.
Come celebrate with The Mercyhurst Dancers as they treat family and friends to this heartwarming story of hope, an hourlong performance featuring dancing snowflakes, glorious angels and the inspiring kindness of this traditional holiday story. Children of all ages will be moved by the story of The Little Match Girl, adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless tale.
After the performance, audience members are invited to stay, meet the dancers and see their costumes up close. The dancers will have a special treat for each child and will be available for photos in the festively decorated theatre lobby.
In keeping with the spirit of the season, a portion of the proceeds from these performances will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. In the words of artistic director Melissa Bobick, “Seeing The Little Match Girl is the perfect way to enrich your holiday season with the spirit of hope and generosity.”
‘Tis the Season with The Little Match Girl will be presented Friday, Dec. 4, at 4:30 and 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
All tickets for ‘Tis the Season with The Little Match Girl are $5. In addition, one child per family, 12 and younger, is admitted free with the donation of a nonperishable food item that will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
