Ryan Hall construction site

Make your mark on Mercyhurst University history by signing a steel beam that will become part of the new Ellen and David Ryan Residence Hall now under construction on the east campus.

The beam will be available for signing on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 12:30 p.m., at the annual picnic that follows the 11:15 a.m. Mass of the Holy Spirit. The lunch and signing take place in the grassy area situated between Zurn Hall and Old Main.

Joining him will be representatives of the college constituencies, including Mercyhurst Student Government President Jonah Jackson, Faculty Senate President Gerry Tobin, Staff Senate President Travis Lindahl, Lindsay Frank, representing our alumni, and Sister Lisa Mary, representing the Sisters of Mercy. Two individuals who have been instrumental in shaping the development and progress of the new residence hall will also be among the first signers: Vice President for Student Life and Athletics Laura Zirkle and Vice President for Finance and Administration David Myron.

Myron said the beam will be available for signing Thursday only, after which it will be returned to the construction site. Ultimately, he said, it will be encased in the structure, but the signers will always be able to say, “I was there when …”
