Last April, journalist, author and former First Lady of California Maria Shriver visited Mercyhurst University for a special evening “In Conversation” with Sister Joan Chittister, OSB. The event sold out in four hours but, thanks to Laker TV, Mercyhurst’s student cable station, Erie residents can experience this wonderful and enlightening talk on their televisions.
“In Conversation” will air on Channel 19, Time Warner Cable in Erie City & Corry, starting Wednesday, March 16, at 8 pm. It will be re-telecast Friday, March 18, at 6 pm.
The discussion drew 800 people to hear Shriver and Chittister talk about women, social justice and inspiration. The William C. Sennett Institute for Mercy and Catholic Studies at Mercyhurst, headed by Mary Hembrow Snyder, sponsored the event.
Chittister is a Mercyhurst graduate who later earned a master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a doctorate from Penn State University. She has been an articulate social analyst and influential religious leader for 40 years, advocating for justice, peace and equality in church and society, especially for women.
