Extreme acrobats backflip onto Mercyhurst stage

Thursday, November 3, 2016

A Simple Space by Gravity & Other Myths backflips its way into the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, as part of the Mercyhurst Institute for Arts and Culture’s 2016-17 season.

Gravity & Other Myths is a multi-award winning Australian acrobatic ensemble consisting of seven performers who push their physical limitations to the extreme.

Supported by driving live percussion and minimalistic staging, A Simple Space positions the performers inches from audience members who can feel the heat, hear every breath and engage in every moment of this intimately raw performance.

A Simple Space premiered in 2013 at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, winning the award for “Best Circus.” Described as “Cirque de Soleil with a fistful of grit” by the Daily Express, the company taps into their passion and talent to mystify audiences through breathtaking stunts and gravity-defying feats.

Founded in 2009 in Adelaide, South Australia, Gravity & Other Myths has fused acrobatics and theatre. In less then five years, the globe-trotting company has won multiple awards for its three different productions, including its debut of Freefall in 2009, and its 15-minute act Exhale.

The company currently employs nine touring performers, including founding members Lachlan Binns and Martin Schreiber. Also included in the touring group is musician and composer Elliot Zoerner, who performs the live music for each performance.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for youth (10 and under). For more information, visit miac.mercyhurst.edu, or call 824-3000 to purchase tickets for this must-see event.
