Bollheimer named Mercyhurst general counsel

Thursday, April 7, 2016

Merry Bollheimer, J.D., has been appointed Mercyhurst University’s first full-time general counsel and vice president for legal affairs, effective immediately.

“We are very pleased to have Merry assume this important leadership position,” said Mercyhurst President Michael Victor in making the announcement. “The institution has already benefited from her thoughtful counsel on many issues, and we now will have the opportunity to get that on a daily basis. Merry brings outstanding experience and an abiding passion for Mercyhurst.”

Bollheimer came to Mercyhurst from private practice in 2006 and has held a variety of positions since her arrival. She has served as the assistant vice president for academic affairs, interim associate dean of the Walker School of Business, Title IX coordinator, pre-law advisor, and most recently as the vice president of Mercyhurst Faculty Senate.

In her new role, she will continue many of the tasks she has undertaken during the last 10 years including the advancement of institutional compliance efforts and risk management planning.  She will serve as the institution's chief legal officer, providing legal advice and guidance on a myriad of legal issues across the institution.

"I am excited to join the president's staff and use my combined legal and higher education experience to contribute to the advancement and growth of the institution," Bollheimer said.

Bollheimer earned her juris doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and her undergraduate degree at the Pennsylvania State University.  She has been published in several national publications including the Journal for College and University Law, where she serves as an editorial board member.  She also currently serves as the vice chairperson for the Women's Division of the Erie County Bar Association.
