Students stage 'Figaro' classic comedy

Marriage of Figaro
Mozart’s classic comedy of deception, theatrics and love comes to life on the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center stage at Mercyhurst University in The Marriage of Figaro on March 22, 23 and 24.

This spectacular display of talent features student actors accompanied by a small chamber orchestra. Performances are Friday and Saturday, March 22-23, at 8 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m.

The production is produced and directed by Louisa Jonason, chairwoman of the D’Angelo Department of Music, with the help of James Bobick as assistant director.

The Marriage of Figaro is a menagerie of love and betrayal centering around the story of Figaro and his fiancée, Susanna, facing conflict on the day of their wedding. What starts as a day of joy and celebration is quickly changed by an adulterous Count, a love-stricken housekeeper, a doctor who is bent on revenge and the affairs of a young boy who is simply too interested in women.

The score of The Marriage of Figaro is just as enchanting as the plot itself, featuring many well-known arias.

The cast includes senior Eric Delagrange as Figaro; senior Kirstan Orgel and senior Devon Meddock as Susanna; senior Matthew Tolbert as Count Almaviva; junior Mathew Anderson as Bartolo; senior Katie Cecchetti as Marcellina; junior Kathleen Reveille as Cherubino; senior Kayla Rehar as Barbarina; senior Adam Ferrari as Basilio; Andrea Baker ’11 and sophomore Alexa Zeremenko as the Countess; and junior Tyler Drew as Antonio.

Tickets for this classic 1789 opera are $15.50 for adults, $12.50 for seniors and students, $7.50 for President’s Cardholders, $5 for youth (12 and under) and $2.50 for Mercyhurst students with ID. Tickets can be purchased by calling 814-824-3000 or by visiting miac.mercyhurst.edu.
