Mercyhurst earns first-place honors from Second Harvest

Mercyhurst College was recently honored as the 1st place winner in the collegiate category of the 2007 Bread Box Awards sponsored by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania.

The honor stems, in particular, from the work of the social work and art education clubs, advised by Dr. Laura Lewis and Camille Nischal, respectively, which last spring raised $6,000 for the food bank through the annual Empty Bowl fundraising endeavor. Mercyhurst’s annual food drive, sponsored by Campus Ministry, also earned kudos from Second Harvest.

The Bread Box awards are given for originality, success in promoting hunger awareness and the amount of money raised.
