“Burn The Floor,” an Evening of Classical Spanish Dance

Kicking off the Mercyhurst College Dance Series at the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center will be “Burn the Floor,” an Evening of Classical Spanish Dance, Saturday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m.

Two internationally acclaimed guest artists, Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer, Luis Montero and powerful Dance Theatre of Harlem, principal dancer and guest artist, Ramon Thielen, will join the Mercyhurst Dancers to fire up the stage.

Back by popular demand is Ravel’s “Bolero,” choreographed by and featuring Montero as a leading dancer.

“Mr. Montero has become an anticipated regular for Erie audiences. His spell-binding “Carmen” left audiences wanting more and so we’ve brought him back. Once again he will restage “Bolero”, a piece of music and dance that consistently brings audiences to their feet,” said Artistic Director Tauna Hunter.

Also heating up the program will be Thielen in the bravura “Don Quixote Pas de Deux” to the music of Minkus, whose music will also lend a Spanish flavor with the sparkling classical work “Paquita.”

This first part of the season’s series will also feature the world premiere of “!Eso Es!” by respected Erie choreographer, Mark Santillano, to the music of the Gipsy Kings.

Ticket prices range from $5 to $12.50 and are available through the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center at 824-3000.
