Mercyhurst hosts ‘Getting into Graduate School’ info session

Is grad school in your future? Discover the ins and outs of “Getting into Graduate School” during the Mercyhurst Business Club’s fourth annual event on Thursday, Nov. 7.

The “Getting into Graduate School” informational session will host 10 regional graduate colleges. Representatives from each school will showcase available graduate programs as well as answer admissions-related questions one-on-one with students. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in Mercy Heritage Room, Sullivan Hall, Erie campus.

Schools include:

  • Clarkson University
  • Duquesne University
  • Mercyhurst University
  • Niagara University
  • Penn State Behrend
  • Robert Morris University
  • Rochester Institute of Technology
  • Syracuse University
  • University of Buffalo
  • University of Pittsburgh

All area college students are welcome to attend the event free of charge, despite their current class year or major. Freshmen students who are considering graduate school in the future are even encouraged to attend the event since many schools offer 4+1 programs. This can save well-prepared students both time and money by allowing them to complete a master’s degree in one year rather than two, depending on courses they have completed at the undergraduate level.

Unsure if you want to attend graduate school? Consider this for a minute — students who are aware of available opportunities open themselves up to the possibility of experiencing greater success, explained Lee Anna Belovarac, assistant professor of business at Mercyhurst.

“Graduate school may mean the difference between being mal-employed, a term that has come to mean that college grads are working jobs that do not require a baccalaureate degree, and finding a challenging, more stable career path,” said Belovarac. “Sometimes, just thinking about graduate school may provide the impetus for a change in a student’s area of study and future career plans.”

Both the Mercyhurst Business Club and Pre-Law Society will be present to speak to ’Hurst students interested in joining as members. The Career Development Center of Mercyhurst will also be on hand to answer students’ questions about the graduate school search and application process.
